May 22, 2017 – We are proud and excited to announce that Ben Gelbart, a recent graduate of Arizona State University, will be presenting his research project entitled, “Death Management Theory: An Alternative Explanation for Terror Management Phenomena,” at the 29th Annual Human Behavior & Evolution Society Conference taking place on May 31st-June 3rd in Boise, Idaho.

Ben will be challenging a well-established theory in social psychology developed in 1986 by Jeff Greenberg, Tom Pyzzynski, and Sheldon Solomon, and based on Earnest Becker’s conceptualization of death. Whereas Terror Management Theory (TMT) suggests the core motivation behind an array of human behavior is our underlying awareness of the inevitability of death, Ben will be arguing for an evolutionary perspective based on fundamental human motives.

Join us in wishing Ben the best!
